Mid-Island Tract
The Mid-island Tract, formerly the Planters Row Golf Course, is a recently established park that is another terrific birding location on Hilton Head Island. It boasts a mix of open grass fields, a variety of trees and shrubs, and freshwater pounds and lagoons -all wonderful habitats for an impressive number of birds at any time of the year. Great-horned owls have nested there, and it's one of only a couple places on the Island with nesting red-headed woodpeckers. The ponds are home to common gallinule, wood ducks, kingfisher and a number of herons and egrets. May will be a perfect time to search and listen for songbirds too, including numerous warblers, summer tanager, orchard oriole and painted bunting, just to name a few. We'll also keep an eye to the sky for passing hawks and kites. Join us for what promises to be a wonderful birding experience!
The parking lot is located just off Union Cemetery Road.
